Box Score

#14 Florida State pounded out 19 hits and three homeruns en route to an 18-4 win over High Point at Dick Howser Stadium Tuesday night in Tallahassee, Fla.

The two sides traded runs in the back-to-back half innings with Florida State (8-5) scoring first in the bottom half of the second.  Ohmed Danesh struck out to start the inning, but reached on a wild pitch.  D'Vontrey Richardson hit a single to left and a hustle play by Danesh advanced all the way to third, while Richardson took second on the throw.  On the next pitch, Danesh would score via a wild pitch.

High Point (4-7) quickly responded in the top of the third inning, aided by a couple of Seminole errors.   Jeff Cowan reached second base when the ball bounced past Richardson who lost the ball in sun.  Alfie Wheeler hit a grounder underneath the glove of the third baseman and reaching leftfield, allowing Cowan to cross the plate and tie the game at one.

FSU put up nine runs in the next five innings seemingly putting the game away.  In the fourth, both of the Seminoles runs came off of sacrifice flyouts.  They also got a pair of homeruns in the sixth inning, a two-run homer from Jack Posey and a solo shot by Stuart Tapley.

HPU tried cutting into deficit in the top half of the sixth.  With two outs, Billy Manion drew a walk followed up by a Kyle Mahoney single off the wall and another walk to Billy Alvino.  The Noles brought in a new pitcher, who got Eric Marion to pop up and end the threat.

The Panthers finally cut into the lead posting three runs in the top of the eighth.  The inning started with a Wheeler walk and a Manion single to leftfield.  After a strikeout, Alvino walked for the second time to load the bases.  Back-to-back singles by Murray White IV and Max Fulginiti plated the first two runs of the inning.  Spencer Andrews was hit by a pitch to bring in the final run of the inning.  Posey came on in relief to record the final two outs of the inning, on a strike out and pop out.

The Seminoles put the game out of reach in bottom half of the inning exploding for eight runs.  The big blow was a grand slam by pinch-hitter Sherman Johnson on the first pitch he saw.

High Point got two hits from Manion, while Alvino walked twice.  Wheeler's seven game hitting streak was snapped.  Mike Caldwell suffered the loss, working five innings and giving up five runs (four earned).  The loss drops his record to 2-2 on the season.

FSU was lead by Richardson and Ruairi O'Connor who had four and three hits, respectively.  Twelve different Seminoles registered a hit in the contest.  Bo O'Dell picked up his first win of the season and ninth of his career.  The righty worked 5.2 innings allowing just one unearned run on three hits.

The two teams finish up the two-game set Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at Dick Howser Stadium.
