The High Point University women's basketball team fell to Radford, 76-60 on Monday night in Big South action at the Dedmon Center in Radford, Va.

Leading the Panthers (11-14, 7-5 BSC) was Mackenzie Maier and Shamia Brown with 17 points each.  Maier added 11 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Frances Fields tallied 10 points.

For the Highlanders (7-15, 6-5 BSC), Taleia Moton posted 18 points while Kymesha Alston added 17. Johnette Walker tallied 11 points.

The Panthers fell behind early in the first half, trailing by as many as 15 at two different points with the last coming at the 3:22 mark when RU went on top 34-19. HPU would not back down though and closed out the half with a 10-2 run in which the Panthers went 6-of-6 from the line including four charity shots from Maier. That pulled High Point within seven (36-29) going into the intermission.

Radford cut off the High Point run coming out of the break, opening with a 9-0 run of its own to take a 16 point, 45-29 lead with just under four minutes played. The Highlanders stayed in control of the game with High Point only getting as close as 12 off a jumper from Maier. Radford took its largest lead of the game up by 20 (74-54) with 1:10 left in the game.

High Point held the advantage on the boards, with 39 to 33 by the Highlanders, but Radford forced 20 turnovers while just giving the ball up 14 times. High Point had 22 second chance points and 28 points in the paint to 16 and 30, respectively by RU. Radford tallied 22 points off turnovers and 28 bench points. HPU posted 16 second chance and six bench points.

The Panthers went 16-of-19 from the free throw line for one of their best free throw outings of the season, shooting 84.2-percent.

The Panthers will continue their road swing on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they travel to UNC Asheville for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off in the Justice Center.
