Men's Soccer Falls to Elon, 4-1

The High Point University men's soccer team fell to Elon 4-1 in non-conference action at Rudd Field on Tuesday night. High Point, led by first year coach and former Phoenix assistant Dustin Fonder, fell to 0-2-1. Elon claimed its first victory of the season and now sits at 1-1-0 on the year.

Elon jumped out on top early as Justin Wyatt netted his first goal of the season in the second minute of play. Wyatt took Miller's pass and deposited it in the back of the net just 1:58 into the contest. Steven Kinney pushed the Phoenix lead to 2-0 at 38:18 when he knocked home Imeni's cross off of a free kick. Less than two minutes later the Elon advantage grew to 3-0. At 40:13, Imeni took a cross from Jon Juchno and scored his first marker of the campaign. Miller also picked up his second assist of the half as he fed the ball to Juchno.

The second half started slowly before Aaron Parker connected on his first score of the year at 62:55 to put Elon ahead 4-0. Daniel Street played a ball over the Panther defense that Parker raced down and took the final 30 yards into the box to go one-on-one with the High Point keeper.

Justin Pruetz took Matt Tuttle's free kick and found the back of the net at 85:32 to allow High Point to avoid the shutout.

In goal, Elon's Kyle Boerner earned the win after allowing one goal and grabbing three saves while going the distance. Corey Whisenhunt allowed the first three Phoenix scores and made one save in the first 45 minutes. Adam Ross grabbed five stops and allowed one marker in the final 45 minutes of play.

Shots in the first half were nearly even as the Panthers held a slim 6-5 edge in that category, but trailed in shots on goal by a 4-2 margin. On the night, Elon finished with a 12-10 edge in total shots and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Panthers did earn eight corner kicks, including six in the second stanza, to four for the Phoenix.

The Panthers will be back in action when they face Wofford at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday in Spartanburg, S.C.
