High Point Falls to Winthrop, 2-1

The High Point University men's soccer team fell to defending Big South Champion Winthrop, 2-1 on Wednesday night at Vert Track and Soccer Stadium. HPU falls to 2-6-1 (0-1-0 Big South) while Winthrop improves to 5-1-1 (1-0-0 Big South).

Winthrop's Daniel Revivo scored both of the team's goals with the first coming in the 36th minute. Stephen Nsereko passed the ball to Saidi Isaac who sent it to Revivo to set up the play. Revivo was inside the box and was able to send it just past HPU goalkeeper Adam Ross.

In the 42nd minute Ross deflected a Winthrop cross where Revivo was able to pick up the deflection and convert it in to a score to send the Eagles into the break with the 2-0 lead.

High Point freshman Christian Dominguez prevented the WU shutout in the 84th minute when he found Winthrop goalkeeper Patrick Mitrovitch out of the goal and sent the ball into the right side of the net.

Mitrovitch picks up the win for the Eagles, saving four of High Point's five shots on goal while Ross had two saves. The Panthers also out-shot the Eagles nine to eight and held the Eagles to just two shots in the second half.

High Point will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 29 when the team travels to Asheville, N.C. to face UNC Asheville in Big South play.
