The High Point men's basketball team used a balanced offense and a stingy defense to earn a 70-49 victory over Savannah State on Tuesday night at Tiger Arena.

The Panthers (17-8) picked up their 10th non-conference win of the year finishing with a 10-6 record outside of league play. The loss for Savannah State snapped a three-game home win streak for the Tigers and dropped them to 10-16 on the year.

High Point had nine players score and play in over 15 minutes in the victory. Junior Arizona Reid led the offense with 15 points followed by 12 from Landon Quick and 11 by Jerald Minnis, off the bench. HPU shot 50 percent from the floor for the game including a 56.5 percent clip in the second half.

Javon Randolph was the lone Tiger player to top double-digits scoring 14 points. Savannah State committed 21 turnovers and shot just 33.3 percent from the field.

"We had great balance tonight," said HPU head coach Bart Lundy. "I thought we did a good job of playing the type of defense we were playing earlier this year. We played solid team and individual defense and that turned into some easy opportunities on the offensive end. I glad to end this road swing with a win and I'm looking forward to playing at home in front of our fans on Saturday night."

High Point jumped out early taking a 10-3 lead just over three minutes into the game. Lundy shuffled the starting lineup inserting Tim Burns, Cruz Daniels and Troy Bowen resulting in some instant excitement as the trio accounted for seven of the first 10 HPU points.

Savannah State closed the gap to a single point at 10-9 only to see High Point mount an 11-2 surge to open up a double-digit advantage (23-11) with 8:02 left in the period. The Panthers led by as many as 17 points in the opening stanza en route to a 35-21 halftime lead.

The Panthers scored the first five points of the second half to go up by 19. HPU kept the pressure on at both ends as the Tigers were unable to mount any type of comeback. High Point built a 20+ point margin midway through the final period before committing from late miscues that allowed Savannah State to trim into the final margin of victory.

HPU earned a 40-24 advantage in rebounding with Quick and Daniels both wiping the glass for seven boards each. Quick also handed out a team best four assists in the contest.

High Point now turns its attention to their final stretch of Big South games beginning Saturday night against Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. at the Millis Athletic Center.
