The High Point University men's soccer team dropped a Big South match to Coastal Carolina, 1-0 on Sunday at Richard Vert Track and Soccer Stadium. CCU improves to 6-7-1 and 4-0-0 in the Big South while HPU falls to 5-10-1 and 1-3-0 in the conference.
Coastal scored the lone goal of the game late in the first half. A foul by High Point set Lachlan Cahill up for the free kick for the Chanticleers. Cahill got the ball to Kevin Van Den Berg who headed it to Robbie McRight directly in front of the goal. McRight was able to get his head on the ball and send it in to the left side just past HPU keeper Corey Whisenhunt.
High Point had several chances with shots on goal from Hilaire Babou, Cole Atkins and Gordon Smith, but CCU keeper Aaron Weant was able to stop each opportunity.
The Panthers held the slight advantage in shots with seven to five and had three corner kicks to the Chanticleers' two. Whisenhunt had three saves for High Point while Weant saved three.
HPU will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 31 in the home finale against Liberty. Game time is set for 7 p.m. The Panthers will also honor this year's seniors before the game.
