The High Point University men's soccer team fell to NC State this afternoon, 5-0 at Method Road. The Wolfpack's (4-3-3) head George Tarantini recorded his 200th career.
NC State started its scoring off in the 21st minute. Sophomore Alan Sanchez took a hard shot on goal, that bounced off the keeper's hands and rolled toward the goalline. Classmate Daniel Fish came in and slide the ball into the net for his second goal of the season at the 20:37 mark.
The Pack would add one more goal before the half. Freshman Tyler Lassiter and Sanchez worked a perfect one-two combo along the sideline, resulting in Lassiter bending his shot into the top, right corner at the net for his first collegiate goal at the 38:58 mark.
NC State went into the half up 2-0, outshooting the Panthers 10-3.
The second half was much of the same, as NC State would add three more scores. Sanchez recorded his own goal at the 69:25 mark, after taking a quick, short pass from sophomore Jorge Mora on a free kick from about 20 yards out.
Mora started the Pack's next scoring play, finding Sanchez deep in the High Point penalty area. Sanchez's shot was saved on the backline, but junior Alberto Ramos was right there to fire the loose ball into the empty net at the 71:28 mark.
The final score of the game came with less than a minute remaining. Sophomore Orry Powers lined up a free kick from about 50 yards out. That shot went off the keeper's hands and freshman Chris Zuerner was there to put away the rebound at the 89:16 mark.
The Wolfpack held a 20-6 advantage in shots for the game. NC State keeper Christopher Widman recorded his third shutout of the season as he finished with three saves.
High Point will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they return home to Vert Track and Soccer Stadium to face future Big South member Presbyterian at 7 p.m.
