The High Point University men's soccer team fell to North Florida, 1-0 today on the second day of the JAKO Classic hosted by Gardner-Webb University.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first half. The Panthers first chance for a goal came in the 18th minute of play by Josh Windley, which was followed by a corner kick and another shot on goal by Chris Archer in the 19th minute.
"We had our chances to win in both the first and second halves," said head coach Peter Broadley. "We just couldn't convert those opportunities."
The Ospreys' best and only opportunity to score in the first came in the 29th minute of play by Shareef Rajkumar's shot on goal.
Rajkumar fired another shot on goal to open the second half of play in the 47th minute, but the Panthers' keeper, Daniel Clark, made the save.
David Pollard scored the loan goal of the game in the 66th minute. He was assisted by Mats Elmsater.
Up 1-0 after Pollard's goal, Mark Sergio made the final shot of the game in the 87th minute, giving Clark his final save of the game.
Clark recorded three saves for the game while UNF goalkeeper, Michael Frost had five.
"Our team played well today, but unfortunately we just couldn't convert," Broadley said. "Now we just need to go back and get ready for our home opener on Wednesday."
Archer, Victor Harrison and Gordon Smith were named to the JAKO Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Panthers return to the field on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 7:00 p.m. That game will be played at Correll Field at the HP Atheletic Complex in High Point.
