Amaniera Propels No. 6 HPU Over No. 2 Coastal Carolina, 2-1

Babou scores game winning goal.

Anthony Amaniera came off the bench and came up big for the sixth-seeded High Point Panthers scoring a late goal and posting a key assist to lift HPU past No. 2 Coastal Carolina in the sixth game of the 2006 Big South Men's Soccer Tournament Thursday night at Cupp Stadium on the campus of Radford University.  High Point (6-10-4) will play No. 1 Winthrop Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm in the finals.

High Point tied the match up at 1-1 with 10 minutes left to go in the second half.  A Cole Atkins corner kick bounced around in the front of the box and Amaniera found the back of the net for the Panthers.

High Point took the 2-1 lead with six minutes left in regulation.  Amaniera found Hilaire Babou just outside of the left side of the goal who was able to place the ball just past the reach of the Coastal keeper.

Coastal Carolina broke open a scoreless game three minutes into the second half to take the 1-0 lead.   Tim Shaw took a corner kick for the Chants and played the ball to top of the box.  Djamel Bekka fed an open Mkhokheli Dube who put the ball just out of reach of High Point goalkeeper Adam Ross.

High Point had the edge in shots with 13, while the Chanticleers posted 10. High Point goalkeeper Ross registered three saves, while Chanticleer netter Aaron Weant recorded four saves.

Coastal Carolina ends the season at 11-7-2.

QUOTES

"This was another great team performance, to come from behind against one of the best teams in the south region. Our young players are starting to show that they can really step-up. The key now is to come back Sunday and try and finish the job."

Coastal Carolina Coach Shaun Docking
"We got beat by a very good High Point team.  They are well coached and well organized and were very resilient team It says a lot for a team to back from being down.  Coach Broadley had his team well organized and they did very well tonight."
