The High Point University men's soccer team fell, 1-0 to Coastal Carolina tonight in the final seconds of the second overtime period. HPU concludes the regular season with a 5-10-3 (3-4 Big South) record while the CCU improves to 10-6-2 (5-2 Big South).
High Point was able to get off five shots in the first half to Coastal's four. In the second half the Panthers had several chances to score with shots on goal coming from Dan Haywood and Chris Shrum but the Coastal goalkeeper was able to hold the Panther attack at bay to send the game into overtime.
In the first overtime defense on both sides was again strong, but the Panthers were able to get off two shots from Chris Archer and Shrum.
In the 109th minute of the game the Chanticleer's Tim Shaw flicked the ball to Robert Holstein who was able to get past the defense to clinch the 1-0 victory for CCU.
High Point will be back on the field on Thursday for the opening day of the 2006 Big South Championships. Seedings will be announced by the conference office on Sunday, Oct. 29.
