High Point Falls to Radford, 4-0

The High Point University men's soccer team fell, 4-0 as Radford University men's soccer pitched its fifth shutout of the season on Wednesday night at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium.

The win closed out the regular season for Radford, who clinched a winning record with the victory. The Highlanders (8-6-3; 4-1-2 Big South) can finish no lower than third place in the Big South. If High Point beats or ties Coastal Carolina Saturday, RU would be the second seed for next week's Big South Tournament, which will be played at RU. The Panthers' (5-9-3; 3-3-0 Big South) seed will be determined following their game with Coastal.

Negron tallied RU's first goal midway through the first half, scoring off a diagonal pass from the top of the box from junior Franklin Elimbi at 24:32.

RU scored again 10 minutes later when junior Davorin Husadzinovic ripped a shot that banged off the post, rebounded off a High Point player and rolled in net, giving RU a 2-0 lead it carried into halftime.

Justin Zimmer launched a high-arcing shot 20 minutes into the second half to score an unassisted goal at 64:03 and give RU a 3-0 lead.

Negron made the most of his senior night near the end of the game, scoring on a pass from junior Jeremy DelPino in the 84th minute.

Radford controlled the game offensively, taking 19 shots to High Point's six, but the Panthers held an advantage in corner kicks, 10-9. HPU's six shots were scattered among six players: Chris Archer, Daniel Walsh, Dan HaywoodGordon Smith, Hilaire Babou and Anthony Amaniera.

RU's Zach Roszel and the Radford defense, recorded their fifth shutout of the season, which equals last year's total. Roszel made two saves. High Point sophomore keepers Adam Ross and Daniel Clark combined for six saves, with Ross making five. HPU also had a team save.

High Point will close out its regular season at Coastal Carolina Saturday at 7:00 pm.
