Alabama A&M Downs High Point, 3-1, at UK Invitational

The Panthers were unable to overcome an early lead by the Bulldogs in a 3-1 loss to Alabama A&M at the University of Kentucky Invitational on Friday in Lexington, Ky.

High Point (0-1-0) struggled in the first half after the Bulldogs' Henry Kabeta scored an early goal less than a minute into the contest. Going into the break the Panthers were down 1-0.

Despite having more shots on goal than their opponent in the second half, High Point was unable to overcome the early deficit. The Panthers' lone goal came at the 73:00 mark when Cole Atkins took a straight on shot from 40 yards out, scoring just inside the right post.

"We got off to a poor start," said High Point University Head Coach Peter Broadley. "We were trying to play catch-up throughout the entire game."

The Bulldogs would score two more times in the contest when Mosito Ranko put one past the line at 63:54 and Mooketsi Letsholo added one of his own at the 70 minute mark.

"We were playing so far up, trying to get some goals in, we left open places in the back," Broadley said. "But over all I thought we played much better in the second half. It was good to see that we could come back after being down and be able to rally toward the end."

High Point goalkeeper, freshman Brandon Amaya had four saves in the loss, while Andrew Jjombewe made six saves to earn the win for the Bulldogs.

Tomorrow the men's soccer team will be back in action at the UK Invitational when it does battle with the Louisville Cardinals. That game is set to begin at 5:00 p.m.
