Box Score Ryan Braun hit a pair of home runs to lead No.2-ranked Miami to a 10-1 win over High Point Sunday afternoon in the series finale between the teams at Mark Light Stadium.
Less than 24 hours after outlasting the Panthers 7-6 in 11 innings Saturday night, the Hurricanes (4-0) scored four runs in the fifth inning to break open a 2-1 game and complete a three-game sweep.
Josh Cotten took the loss for HPU (0-3) after allowing four runs and six hits while striking out a pair in 4 1/3 innings of work.
Chris Perez gave up one run in five innings for his first win in a Miami uniform.
Ro Castro scored the Panthers' lone run after he singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Matt Christie, advanced to third on a wild pitch and came across on a base hit by Chris Ramirez.
Miami got on the board early with a solo shot by Braun over the left field fence. Braun struck again with a leadoff home run in the fourth inning to left-center for a 2-0 Miami lead.
High Point cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth on Ramirez's RBI single.
The Hurricanes broke the game open in the fifth. Brendan Katin led off the inning with an infield single and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Alex Garabedian. Danny Robitaille walked to put runners at first and second with one out and High Point's Matt Schlanger was brought in to relieve Cotten on the mound. Walter Diaz then brought Katin home with his first career hit to spark a four-run spurt. Braun batted in his third run of the game with a sacrifice fly to deep center, followed by a two-run single by Danny Valencia for a 6-1 lead at the end of the inning.
Katin added a solo home run to lead off the seventh and the Hurricanes added three more runs in the eighth for the final 10-1 score.
Ramirez had a team-high two hits for the Panthers.
High Point visits Furman next weekend, beginning with a doubleheader Saturday (1:00 pm). HPU's home opener is set for Tuesday, Feb. 15, against Elon at Erath Field (2:30 pm).
