Panther Volleyball Drops Road Stretch Finale at ETSU

Box Score

The High Point University volleyball team dropped a disappointing 3-0 (30-18, 30-20, 30-11) decision at East Tennessee State on Wednesday night in the last match of a two-week road stretch for HPU.

The Panthers, who will now play five of their final six matches at home, slipped to 13-13 for the year with the loss. ETSU improved to 16-9 on the season and captured their ninth home victory in 10 contests.

"It was a struggle for us all night long," said HPU head coach Chad Esposito. "We just never were able to get comfortable on the court. We tried to find something to get on track but nothing seemed to click for us. It is disappointing to play a match like this, but hopefully we can bounce back and get ready to play some important Big South matches this weekend."

Junior Sabrina Wahid led the way offensively for the Panthers finishing with eight kills and a solid .429 hitting percentage. Freshman Ashley Mellott chipped in five kills for HPU. Jamie Kaufman led the High Point defense with six digs and Michelle Feiser's 11 assists topped the team in that category.

For the Lady Bucs, Callie Kiselich and Sarah Buhr both posted 12 kills. ETSU hit .430 as a team in the contest with four players recording hitting percentages of over .500.

High Point returns to the court on Friday night for the first of four consecutive home Big South Conference matches. The Panthers will host Liberty at 7 p.m. on Friday and then play Radford at 4 p.m. on Saturday in a pair of key league tilts. Both matches will be played in the Millis Athletic Center.
