Men's Soccer Shutout by Coastal Carolina, 2-0

High Point fell to Big South Conference foe Coastal Carolina, 2-0, today in men's soccer action. The Chanticleers improve to 4-7-1 (1-2-0 BSC) while the Panthers fall to 0-8-3 (0-4-1 BSC).

Despite an aggressive charge from High Point, Coastal proved to be too much for the young HPU squad. The two teams were even in the shot category with 12 while High Point bested Coastal in the shots on goal category 5-4.

Neither team was on the board going into the half. The Chanticleers made their first goal just 10 minutes into the second when Lachlan Cahill trapped the thrown-in and was on target to put CCU up 1-0. Just two minutes later the Chanticleers' Daniel O'Brien broke away from the pack and connected with the back of the net off an assist from China Maja.

"I thought we played very well for 80-percent of the game," said High Point head coach Peter Broadley. "There was a five to ten minute stretch there were we broke down defensively."

The Panthers had several opportunities to score with shots on goal coming from Cole Atkins, Dan Haywood, Chris Archer, Tyler Bush and Brandon Young.

"We have to capitalize on our opportunities to score," Broadley said. "We need to score when we can."

Coastal's goalkeeper, Aaron Weant had five saves in the win while HPU's Adam Ross stifled two.

"The key now is to stay positive. We go out and continue to work hard and hope that we will be able to turn those scoring opportunities into wins."

High Point's next match will take place Oct. 19 against #17 UNC-Greensboro. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Albion Millis Stadium.
