Davidson got two second-half goals from
Jessica Lahre and
Heidi Wilbrandt added an insurance goal to knock off High Point, 3-1, Wednesday night in women's soccer action at Davidson's Alumni Stadium.
The host Wildcats improved to 4-2-0, while the Panthers saw their two-match win streak snapped and dip to 3-2-0.
Amy Anzovino scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year for the Panthers in the 79th minute.
The teams played to a scoreless first half before the Wildcats broke through with a pair of Lahre goals nine minutes apart. The first came in the 54th minute off an assist from
Kara Koerhn, and the second was a header off the crossbar that deflected off HPU keeper
Hannah Nail and went in for a 2-0 Davidson lead.
Following Wilbrandt's score in the 69th minute for a 3-0 Davidson advantage, Anzovino found the net off an assist from
Ryan Hays for her Big South-tying fourth goal of the season.
Nail made six saves on a busy night in net for HPU. Davidson out-shot the Panthers by a 15-3 clip.
High Point hosts undefeated UNC Wilmington (7-0-0) Sunday afternoon. Kickoff at Albion Millis Stadium is set for 2:00 pm.
