The Citadel (21-13) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second on four hits and a throwing error. Chip Cannon got the rally started with a double to right and then scored on an infield hit by Jon Aughey. The Bulldogs scored their second run thanks to a run-scoring double from Mark Egleton that plated Aughey.

In the fifth, the Bulldogs added three runs to push their lead to 6-0, and extended it to 9-0 with one run in the sixth and two in the seventh.

High Point (6-31) got on the board with two runs in the eighth on a RBI double to right-center by Matt Keever that plated Matt Richardson and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Chris Draska which scored Keever.

After The Citadel added an insurance run in the eighth, the Panthers scored twice in the ninth on a two-run home run by Rojas, who ripped the first pitch he saw over the left field wall to get HPU within 10-4.

Ellis improved to 6-2 on the season after striking out seven and scattering seven hits while not allowing a walk. Helman (1-5) took the loss after yielding seven runs on 11 hits.

The teams play again Saturday at 2:00 pm. Josh Cotten gets the start for High Point against The Citadel's Ken Egleton, while Matt Kniginyzky will oppose Chip Cannon in Sunday's finale.
