Box Score Liberty survived a triple-double from High Point's Michelle Feiser (68 assists, 10 kills, 10 digs) and claimed a 3-1 win (28-30, 30-27, 30-27, 30-26) over the Panthers Saturday night in Big South volleyball action in the Vines Center.
The Flames improve to 8-17 (5-6 in Big South play), while the Panthers dip to 16-13 (5-5).
HPU got a match-high 23 kills from Jamie Kaufman and a match-high 20 digs from Kim Anderson. Lindsey Pickens just missed a double-double (10- kills, nine digs).
Anderson has now reached double-figures in digs in her last 33 matches (which is the fifth-longest streak in the nation).
Jennifer Belk led Liberty with 20 kills and 16 digs. Kristin Colson recorded 56 assists and seven digs, while Becky Rudnick tallied 11 kills. Tiffany Thoreson and Janell Migeot posted 13 and 11 kills apiece. Allison Hallock and Lara Bartolomeo collected 17 and 11 digs respectively.
The Panthers were hampered by 17 service errors.
"It was a battle tonight," HPU head coach Chad Esposito said. "It was back-and-forth, intense volleyball. Unfortuantely our service errors let us down -- we gave up too many points between serving balls out and our serve-receiving. Offensively we had a great night, but to Liberty's credit they stepped up and played us very well.
"We had opportunities in every game to pull ahead and take charge, but came up short."
Feiser's triple-double is believed to be the first in High Point's Division I history.
"Michelle showed the kind of athlete she is tonight," Esposito said. "She attacked and distributed the ball well and played great defense."
High Point, which swept Radford on Friday night, returns to the court on Tuesday for a 7:00 start in the Millis Center against Big South foe UNC Asheville.
"Even though we had a good weekend, we're disappointed," Esposito said. "We'll have to focus even more on this next week. We're looking forward to coming home for a tough match against a good UNCA team."
