The second day of tough competition at the NC State Outback Steakhouse Volleyball Invitational didn't treat High Point much better than first, as the Panthers dropped matches to host North Carolina State and TCU at Raleigh's Reynolds Coliseum.

The Panthers fell 3-1 to the Wolfpack in their first match of the day, and were swept by the Horned Frogs 3-0.

HPU (0-8) dropped the opening game to the Wolfpack 30-26 before rallying for a 30-21 win in game two to knot the match at 1-1. The Panthers had a .303 team hitting percentage in the second game.

But the Wolfpack (3-3), who defeated HPU in five games in High Point last season, regrouped and took games three and four (30-21, 30-17) to claim the win.

Lindsey Pickens, the Big South's reigning Freshman of the Week, led the Panther attack with 16 kills, while Kamarsha Ryan added 13 kills. Kim Anderson had 11 digs and Heather Butt 41 assists for the Panthers. Julia Reis had a match-high 23 kills for the Wolfpack.

In their second match, the Panthers fell 30-19,30-27,30-23 to TCU (5-1). Pickens again led the Panthers in kills with 13, and was the only HPU player to reach double-figures in kills, although Anderson (15 digs) and Jenelle Stouffer (13 digs) did reach double-digits defensively for HPU.

The Panthers return home to face cross-county rival UNC Greensboro Tuesday night at the Millis Center. First serve is set for 7:00 pm.
