High Point trailed 2-1 and forced a fifth and deciding game against visiting Gardner-Webb, but the Bulldogs won six of the match's final eight points and downed the Panthers by a linescore of 28-30, 30-19, 30-27, 20-30, and 15-11 Tuesday night in volleyball action at the Millis Center.

HPU rallied in game four behind reigning Big South freshman of the week Lindsey Pickens and sophomore Ashley Roth (five kills apiece) to force a winner-take-all final game.

But the Bulldogs got four kills from Kristie Brinkley to rally from a 10-9 deficit to take the final game, 15-11.

Maggie Cornwall led GWU with a match-high 23 kills and added 14 digs, and Brinkley had 17 kills and 14 digs. Carrie Brinkley tallied 56 assists and Melanie Custer provided 16 digs.

Pickens led the Panthers with 18 kills, while Kamarsha Ryan (16 kills) and Ashley Roth (13 kills) also reached double-figures. Heather Butt had 51 assists, and Kim Anderson sparked HPU defensively with 21 digs.

The Panthers will face Virginia Tech, TCU, and host North Carolina State in this weekend's NC State Outback Steakhouse Invitational beginning Friday in Raleigh.
