The Panthers (0-3) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage on Funk after Rey Rojas scored on a first-inning sacrifice fly by Brent Myers and Colin Cronin's RBI groundout in the second inning plated Chris Draska.
Furman used five walks by HPU starter John Wanger to erase the deficit and take a 5-2 lead.
Leading 6-3 after four innings, the Paladins took control in the fifth, taking advantage of four walks and a Frankey two-run single off Panther reliever Travis Motsinger to make it 12-3.
Funk surrended three runs and eight hits in five innings of work to gain the win, the first of his career, after missing the entire 2002 season with a broken foot.
The Panthers return to action Wednesday at Western Carolina. Game time in Cullowhee is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
