Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 4-0 Shutout of Wofford

High Point got goals from Sarah Hanson, Anni Svensson and Carolyn Bader and Katie Smith recorded her second career shutout to lead the Panthers past Wofford, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Albion Millis Stadium.

High Point finishes the regular season at 8-9-0, while Wofford drops to 7-7-3.

Hanson got the Panthers on the board in the 14th minute when she scored her first goal of the season on a tap past Wofford keeper Katie Relihan. Hays and Jen Evans each earned assists on the play, which gave HPU a 1-0 advantage.

Svensson scored in the 17th minute on a header off a free kick by Hays to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the break.

Just 51 seconds into the second half, Bader scored the first of her two goals off an assist by Wendy Williams. Bader made it 4-0 in the 68th minute when she put back an Emily Lanham shot that Relihan had pushed away.

Smith made three saves en route to the shutout, while Relihan stopped seven shots in net for the Lady Terriers.

The Panthers outshot Wofford 21-9 and had an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Hanson, Lanham and Smith joined Eileen Mazeika, Stacey Moenter and Stephanie Moenter in making their final regular-season appearances at Albion Millis Stadium.

High Point earned the No. 6 seed in the 2003 Radisson Hotel High Point Big South Women's Soccer Championship, which begins Thursday at Albion Millis Stadium. The Panthers will face defending champion and No. 3 seed Radford in the final first-round match Thursday night at 7:30 pm.
