High Point took an early lead on No. 7-ranked Wake Forest before the Demon Deacons responded with five straight goals to come away with a 5-1 victory in men's soccer action on Tuesday night at Spry Stadium.
Chris Archer scored the goal for HPU.
The victory extended Wake Forest's regular season home unbeaten streak
to 24 games. The Deacons improved to 6-3 while High Point fell to
2-9-1.
Archer's goal came in the 5th minute of play, when he lofted a 35-yard shot over the top of Deacon goalkeeper Brad McEachern.
Less than five minutes later, Steven Curfman and Jeremiah White linked
up with Scott Sealy, who tallied the equalizer.
With 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Sealy struck again. This
time, it was a header on a cross from Curfman. Justin Moose was credited with the assist.
In the second half, Tomy Szczypiorski gave the Deacons a 3-1 lead off an assist from Wells Thompson. Moments later, Wake Forest increased the lead to 4-1 on a goal by Kelvin Jones, and put the finishing touches on the victory with an unassisted goal in the 85th minute by Ryan Alexander.
Archer's goal broke McEachern's personal goal-free streak at 282 minutes. The streak dated back to 1999.
High Point will be back in action on October 15th when they continue with their conference schedule against Radford. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Albion Millis Stadium.
