Ming's Overtime Heroics Give High Point Men's Soccer 3-2 Win Over Wofford

Senior Damon Ming scored his fifith goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 106th minute of the match to give the High Point University Panthers a 3-2 victory over Southern Conference foe Wofford College Friday night in the Albion-Millis Soccer Stadium.

The Panthers improve to 3-2 on the season, snapping a two-game losing streak, while the Terriers fell to 2-2 on the year.

The Panthers looked to be in control from the early going, senior Nate Le Maire scored his first goal of the season with a header off of a corner kick from junior Danny Kitching. The Panthers held on to that lead through halftime, then added to the lead in the 49th minute, as senior John Sitaridis scored his second goal of the year.

The Terriers came back, scoring two goals in three minutes late in the second half. Junior Chris O'Neill got Wofford on the board with a penalty kick in the 73rd minute, the freshman Zach Strable scored at the 76 minute mark to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The two teams battled to a scoreless 15 minutes in the first extra perios, then Ming got to play the hero. The Terriers were called for a holding penalty inside the penalty box, and Ming took the penalty kick, finding the back of the net past freshman keeper Zach Vogt for the game-winner.

Panther keeper Eric Lona had six saves in the match, with HPU outshooting Wofford 18-11, including a 15-8 margin in regulation. The two teams combined for 49 fouls in the aggressive match, including a pair of yellow cards for High Point and one for Wofford.
