The High Point Panthers fought Big South power Winthrop tooth and nail Saturday, and when overtime couldn't settle things, the teams emerged with a 2-2 tie.
High Point (4-10-2. 0-4-2 Big South) scored first on a goal by Luke Knor, off a corner kick by Danny Kitching in the 14th minute of play. Winthrop (11-3-1, 3-2-1) countered with a Francis Wakhisi unassisted score in the 36th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
Chris Young took control of a header from Barry Mitchell in the box and pushed a shot past Winthrop keeper Steve Winton in the 66th minute to give the Panthers a short-lived 2-1 lead. But just minutes later, the Eagles tied it again on a Thorvaldur Arnason header past HPU's Eric Lona.
Both teames survived several furious scoring attempts in overtime, but the game ended all square.
