Kevin McMahon was named Director of Athletic Communications in September of 2021. McMahon joined HPU as an assistant director of athletic communication in September of 2019 after graduating from High Point in 2019.
McMahon serves as the primary contact for Men’s Basketball, Men’s Lacrosse, Men’s Soccer, Track & Field and Cross Country, Women’s Soccer, and Women’s Lacrosse.
McMahon was the 2021 recipient of the USILA Doyle Smith Sports Information / Media award. This award is presented in honor of the career of outstanding service provided to lacrosse by long-time Virginia Assistant Sports Information Director Doyle Smith. Smith defined the game of collegiate lacrosse through his media releases and statistical and national poll coverage of the sport. His contributions to the former NCAA Lacrosse Rulebook and Guide paved the way for many of the sport's great media efforts today on TV, the internet, and in print. The winner of this award can come from college sports information offices or from the media, The nominee has contributed greatly to the promotion and coverage of the sport.

McMahon has taken great pride in growing HPU’s social media brand since coming to HPU, McMahon has helped the Panther’s social media brand make national waves. Since spring of 2020 High Point Lacrosse has been a main stay in the Skullsparks Social media rankings for the most interactions amongst lacrosse programs in the nation peaking as high as #6. McMahon also helped men’s soccer receive Skullsparks top 20 rankings.Â
McMahon has a sports broadcasting background, amongst his duties at HPU he takes great pride in hosting the High Point Athletics Coaches Show each month on location at Sweet Old Bills. Monthly McMahon discusses the latest happenings in High Point athletics with basketball coaches Tubby Smith and Chelsea Banbury and all High Point Coaches throughout the year.Â
Prior to his time with HPU as an employee, McMahon was the first ever voice of the High Point Rockers as he was the play by play broadcaster for High Point's independent ball baseball team in the Rockers' inaugural season, the summer of 2019.
McMahon is a proud Hickory, N.C. native and resides in High Point.Â
