Pat Tracy

Pat Tracy

Pat Tracy joined High Point University as associate head coach of men's lacrosse in 2011. In five seasons he has helped the Panthers go from an upstart to a 2015 NCAA Tournament berth.

Tracy has tutored two Senior CLASS Award finalists in Dan Lomas and Michael LeClair as well as had two attackmen drafted in Lomas (MLL and NLL) and Matt Thistle (MLL).

In 2017, Tracy orchestrated an offense that averaged 8.9 goals per game. That offense, which had to replace the program's top two scorers in Lomas and Thistle, was led by LeClair's 31 points. Playing without the program's two offensive stalwarts for the first time, Tracy's offense showed depth with seven players scoring at least 10 goals.

The 2016 team racked up 12 goals in an upset win over then-No. 10 Virginia. Overall, Tracy's offense was led by All-SoCon selections Lomas, Thistle and LeClair. The trio combined for 96 of the team's 162 goals. Tracy also was able to get 20 goals from midfielder Dallas Bridle - the first midfielder in program history to reach that mark.

Tracy and HPU went 10-7 in 2015 en route to an NCAA Tournament game against Towson after beating Richmond in the Southern Conference championship. As the offensive coach, Tracy helped the Panthers finish second in the league in scoring (10.71 goals per game). The team featured SoCon Offensive Player of the Year Dan Lomas who scored an HPU record 43 goals. Under Tracy’s tutelage, Matt Thistle and Michael LeClair earned all-conference honors while T Moyer and Connor Robinson were on the SoCon’s all-freshman team.

High Point just missed an NCAA Tournament berth in 2014 when it went 9-7 with a one-goal setback in the Atlantic Sun Championship game. Lomas and Thistle were first-team all-league selections while Bucky Smith and Brad James each earned second team honors.

The Panthers won three games in their first season of NCAA action including the program’s first win coming over Towson.

Tracy spent the previous four seasons as assistant coach and defensive coordinator at UMBC, where he helped lead the Retrievers to two America East regular season titles and two tournament championships.

At UMBC, Tracy was involved in all aspects of the program and was responsible for all defensive coaching and game planning. As recruiting coordinator, Tracy recruited 15 High School All-Americans from the United States and Canada and his 2010 incoming class was ranked 14th in the nation by Inside Lacrosse. Tracy organized team practices and equipment and oversaw UMBC’s community service opportunities.

Tracy helped lead UMBC’s 2008 squad to a 12-4 record, a 5-0 conference mark, the America East Tournament title and an NCAA appearance. The following season was nearly identical and the Retrievers finished the season ranked sixth in the nation, the highest ranking in the school’s Div. I history.

Prior to UMBC, Tracy was an assistant coach at Dartmouth College for one season and at his alma mater, Div. III-power Goucher College for two seasons. At Goucher from 2004-06, Tracy also served as offensive coordinator.

Tracy has coached 15 All-Americans, 40 All-Conference selections and four conference players of the year.

Tracy and Torpey have a long history together, beginning while both were starters at Ohio State under current North Carolina head coach Joe Breschi. Tracy then transferred to Goucher, where Torpey was an assistant coach, for his final two years and earned All-Conference honors for the Gophers. Tracy was Goucher’s team captain and ranked in the national top 10 in scoring during his senior year of 2004. He earned his bachelor’s degree in history in 2004.

Tracy is from Baltimore, Md. He and his wife, Molly, have one daughter, Tatum.
