Scott Lombardi is entering his fifth year as the Director of Basketball Operations for the men’s basketball team.
In his first three years with High Point, the Panthers achieved many firsts in their program history including most wins in Division I annals (23), Big South wins (13), road wins (9), and Big South road wins, (7). The men’s basketball team also earned its first postseason (CIT) win in school history along with capturing a fourth-consecutive Big South regular season championship and school record fourth-consecutive postseason appearance by advancing to the NIT in 2015-2016.
The team’s fourth-consecutive regular season championship put the Panthers in elite company as one of only four schools in NCAA Division I men’s basketball to accomplish this feat from 2013-16. In 2015-16, High Point won 21 games and in the process clinched back-to-back 20 win seasons for the first time since 1994-95.
In his current role, Lombardi is responsible for team travel, practice scheduling, community service outreach, all administrative duties of the men’s basketball office, and assisting with on-campus visits.
Prior to joining the staff at High Point University, Lombardi worked at George Mason University for seven years. During his tenure with George Mason, the team accumulated the second most victories (146) in any seven-year span and participated in five postseason tournaments over the seven seasons, including four consecutive. In his first year with the team, George Mason won the CAA Tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. While at Mason, the Patriots won a CAA Regular Season Championship, received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, posted the best record in program history (27-7), tied the conference wins record in a season (16), and participated in the 2009 NIT. Additionally, Lombardi was a part of three consecutive 20-plus win seasons for only the second time in school history. Lombardi served under former head coaches Jim Larranaga and Paul Hewitt.
Before working at George Mason, he coached five years at Georgetown Prep High School in North Bethesda, MD. There, Lombardi coached along side former McDonald's All-American and Georgetown University point guard, Dwayne Bryant. During his time at Georgetown Prep, he coached numerous players who would go on to play Division I basketball, football, and lacrosse.
Lombardi was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Gaithersburg, Md. He attended Georgetown Prep High School where he played basketball, baseball and lacrosse. He graduated from the UMBC and received a degree in social work in 2007.
