AJ Hoynack

AJ Hoynack joined the men's basketball coaching staff as a Graduate Assistant after spending the past four seasons as a player. Hoynack began his collegiate career in 2020 where he played two seasons under Head Coach Tubby Smith, one season with Head Coach GG Smith and his final season under Head Coach Alan Huss.

Hoynack graduated from HPU in May of 2024 with a degree in sales and a minor in sport management. He is currently enrolled in the CBL master's program. As a player, Hoynack appeared in 13 games, scoring 17 points and picking up 10 rebounds. During his senior season he knocked down back-to-back three-pointers in the season opener versus St. Andrews.

As a Graduate Assistant, Hoynack's role will be to help with personnel for opponents as well as making sure the players are working out everyday and being on time to class and practice.

In Hoynacks' first season on staff, he helped lead HPU to its first ever-NCAA tournament appearance as the No. 13 seed and matched up against No. 4 seed Purdue. He helped the staff turn around an under .500 program and guided the Panthers to back-to-back outright Big South Regular Season titles for the first time in program history. High Point became the first team in the Big South since 2011 (Coastal Carolina) to win back-to-back outright regular season titles.

HPU finished with an overall record of 29-6 during the 2024-25 season, which tied for the most wins in Big South program history (Winthrop, 2006-07) and the most wins in HPU program history. The Panthers finished the regular season with a 26-5 record and a 14-2 league record. The 26 regular-season wins is the most in program history and tied the Big South regular-season wins record with Coastal Carolina's 2010-11 season (26-4). The Panthers also set the best win percentage in Division I era with an 88-percent win percentage in conference play and an 84-percentage win percentage in the regular season.
