Tyler DePew

Tyler DePew joined High Point University in 2010 after working for five years in the Detroit Tigers organization. DePew works primarily with the Panthers'  men's lacrosse team. He also previously worked with the baseball and women's soccer teams. He serves as a clinical instructor in the athletic training education program.

Prior to coming to High Point, DePew was the Head Athletic Trainer with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, Detroit’s High-A minor league affiliate, for two seasons. He also spent a year working as the head trainer for the Oneonta Tigers in the New York-Penn League and two seasons as the head trainer for the Gulf Coast League Tigers. DePew supervised all treatment and care for the players from the beginning of spring training through the end of the affiliate’s season.

DePew brings with him an HPU connection as his time in Lakeland coincided with former High Point University baseball standout Billy Alvino, who was playing in the Tigers' organization.

From 2005-08 DePew worked as a paid intern at the College of William & Mary during the baseball offseason. He provided general training room coverage and working on presentations on a wide range of topics including concussion management.

In the spring and summer of 2005, DePew worked as an athletic training intern with the Seattle Mariners, where he assisted with the day-to-day operation of the training room during spring training, extended spring training and short-season rookie ball.

DePew earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 2003 and his master’s degree from the University of Oregon in 2005. He is a Certified Athletic Trainer and a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association. Originally from Vandalia, Ill., he now resides in High Point.
