Rick Marlin returned to the High Point University coaching staff in August 2017 as a full-time assistant coach. Marlin previously worked for HPU as a volunteer assistant for three seasons before taking the same role at Florida Atlantic University for the 2017 campaign. Since his return, Marlin has helped High Point to back-to-back .500 or better seasons, helping the Panthers reach the Big South Championship for the first time in program history in 2018.
In his lone season with the Owls, Marlin was responsible for developing the outfielders and assisting in the implementation of a refined hitting and offensive approach. He also coordinated Owl Baseball Academy Events with local youth and high schools and assisted in recruiting efforts. FAU was 35-21-1 (18-12 Conference USA) in 2017.
While with High Point from 2014-16, Marlin was responsible for developing the outfield unit and ran game day outfield positioning. He also assisted with developing and implementing the hitting/offensive approach and performed first base coaching duties. Marlin developed and coordinated all High Point Baseball Camps, which included team, prospect, and youth camps. High Point won 94 games in Marlin's three years on staff, twice notching 30+ wins.
Marlin began as the volunteer assistant at Florida Southern in 2011 and was promoted to Recruiting Coordinator and Assistant Coach in 2012. During Marlin’s tenure at Florida Southern the Mocs won 111 games and reached the NCAA Div. II Regionals in 2014. Marlin’s responsibilities at Florida Southern included developing and instituting a recruiting plan, coaching the team’s outfielders and serving as the team’s hitting coach.
Marlin played four years of collegiate baseball at Penn State University from 2006-09. He played in 175 career games with 162 starts and finished his collegiate career with a batting average of .295, seven home runs and 84 RBI. He led the Big Ten in average his senior year, batting .338.
Marlin graduated from Penn State in 2009 with a degree in Crime, Law, and Justice. He will reside in Winston-Salem.
