HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The High Point University women's basketball team has a fun way to support the program every season, with the Three-Point Club.
"We wanted to do something that would get our fans excited about the season and our style of play, which includes shooting a lot of threes," head coach
Chelsea Banbury said of the initiative. "The Three-Point Club is a great way to get everyone involved and we are excited about all of the contributions thus far."
The Three-Point Club allows fans to pledge a donation amount for each three-point shot the Panthers make this season or make a one-time donation. Members of the Three-Point Club will receive an exclusive High Point University women's basketball t-shirt and hat. Banbury kicked off the club with a donation of her own money at the team's Panther Night fundraiser prior to her first season as head coach at HPU
Banbury's strategy of shooting the three had great success while she was on staff at Florida Gulf Coast. The Eagles finished in the top-six in three-pointers made per game in Division I each of the last eight seasons, including scoring the most from behind the arc in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. For the last two years, FGCU finished second in D1 in made three-pointers per game, averaging 11.5 per game over the two seasons.
The Panthers saw massive success from behind the arc in Banbury's first season, setting a program record for three-point field goals with 305, the fifth-most in all of NCAA Division I
