CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced the first week of volleyball Player of the Week awards following the opening weekend of the 2026 season. High Point University was awarded two awards as Maya Bukovcan was named the Player of the Week and Remy Catojo was named the Setter of the Week.
 
The Panthers went 1-2 over the weekend, defeating UConn in their opening match and taking No. 10 Penn State to five sets in the programs first five-set rally against a ranked team.
 
Bukovcan led the weekend on the attack putting down 31 kills to average 2.21 per set. On the block she secured 20 total blocks averaging 1.43 per set. She secured 11 kills in both games against Hofstra and Penn State while picking up her first career double-double with 10 blocks against the Nittany Lions. Her best hitting percentage came in the game versus UConn, going 9-for-19 with one error for a .421 hitting percentage. Adding to her stats she picked up 10 digs, three assists and three service aces. Following the tournament, Bukovcan was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts.
 
Catojo helped guide the offense by setting up her teammates on the attack, registering 96 assists, to average 7.38 per set. She recorded a weekend high 38 assists versus UConn and Penn State while contributing 20 assists versus Hofstra. Playing all the way around, she also put down 12 kills and assisted on 12 blocks on the front line. Catojo dropped in two service aces.
 
High Point will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia to play in the Liberty Mountain Madness Tournament hosted by Liberty University. The Panthers will play Lamar University on Saturday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m.
