Head Coach Joey Hammond: "That was as a complete game as we played, and it came at a perfect time. So proud of Ty [Brachbill], he has been incredible all year long. He has been the best guy in the league all year and today showed why. I thought our at-bats were great all day long. We hit balls hard, worked counts, and felt like we swung at the right pitches. We broke through with two-out rbi. Jake [McCarter], Jace [Kohler], and Caleb [Hammond] all came up big. We did baseball things all the way through the lineup. We get rewarded on those things which I'm proud of. We made some great defensive plays and that puts us in a great position to win another game. Tomorrow is going to matter more as we have a chance to create some real separation and keep the momentum heading into the most important games of the year, which are the ones at the end of the year. I'm happy where we are at, and super proud of our guys."
Winthrop took the early lead in the top of the first on a sacrifice fly to center field to score the first run of the night. The Eagles added another run in the top of the second on an rbi groundout.
Jake McCarter gave HPU its first run of the night on an rbi double to the left-center gap, scoring
Landen Johnson all the way from first base. McCarter added another rbi with a rope up the middle to score another runner before
Jace Kohler lined a two-rbi double down the first base line, scoring Johnson and McCarter to put HPU ahead 4-2.
Caleb Hammond capped the scoring in the inning with an rbi double of his own, scoring Kohler to extend the lead to 5-2 in the third.
A single up the middle in the top of the fourth scored the Eagles' third run to cut the HPU lead to 5-3 after four innings.
Seojun Oh blasted a two-run homer over the right-center wall - his 15th of the season - to extend the Panthers' lead to 7-3 after seven innings.
Ty Brachbill completed his third complete game of the season, tossing nine innings while allowing just four hits and three runs with five strikeouts in the 7-3 game two win to secure the series over Winthrop. He improved to 11-1 on the season.
