Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Awesome response from a tough weekend today by everyone on our team! Our pitching and defense was dominant tonight - truly remarkable job from each of the nine guys that toed the rubber. I believe
Dylan Story collected his 9th save and continues his great season. Offensively, the results were not reflective of how competitive our at bats were. We hit a ton of balls right on the screws and it was tough conditions to score runs but in the end, we got more than they did! I'm just really proud of the resilience our guys showed tonight and expect to carry this momentum into this weekend."
Landen Johnson helped HPU get on the board first with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to deep right field, allowing
Frank Kelly to tag and score and give HPU an early 1-0 lead in their first at-bats. The Seahawks evened the game at one with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the first.
With the bases loaded in the top of the ninth,
Wyatt Ewanowski grounded out to the pitcher, drawing a throw to first, which allowed the pinch runner,
Marcus Martin, to come home and score the go-ahead run and give HPU a 2-1 lead.
Dylan Story came in as the ninth pitcher for HPU to close the door and earn his ninth save of the season.
The story of the night was High Point's pitching staff, which surrendered just two hits to the Seahawks.
Jack Carey got the start for HPU, followed in relief by
Cam Chalfant,
Mac Kimel,
Mark Salicco,
Dalton Hitt,
Charlie Jones,
Howell Polk, and
Justin Silverstein. Story closed the door to earn his ninth save and secure the Panthers' 2-1 win in their final midweek game of the season. Silverstein was credited with his first win of the season after throwing a scoreless eighth inning and striking out the side.
