Joey Hammond: "We wasted a great performance from
Ty Brachbill tonight as we were simply not good at the plate from the start to the finish. Credit to their pitcher for taking advantage of our inability to execute and for limiting any free bases as well. We need to get back to taking ownership of our at bats and execute at a much higher level tomorrow."
UNC Asheville grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI grounder. That was one of just four hits surrendered by Panthers hurler
Ty Brachbill (11-2) during his five innings on the mound, as he fanned three UNC Asheville sluggers along the way.
Brachbill gave way to reliever
Noah Zimmerman, who tossed 2.2 innings. Zimmerman allowed just one hit and one run in his first two innings, but a run in the eighth allowed UNC Asheville to stretch its lead to 2-0.
However, the Bulldogs' managed to score nine runs on six hits in the eighth, as the Panthers fell 11-0.
The Panthers tallied three hits in the clash, which included doubles by
Willie Ponce and
Landen Johnson. Teammate
Seojun Oh contributed a single for High Point.
Up Next: High Point returns to the diamond for the rubber match of the three-game series on Saturday, May 16 when the Panthers face UNC Asheville at 12 p.m. at Greenwood Baseball Field.
