Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "I'm really excited to see the girls play this hard at home, especially after the game on Saturday with Mercer. We talked a lot about our own discipline and following the game plan regardless of the opponent. I felt like we did a good job with that tonight. We've known we have a lot of depth, and I was excited to see a lot of those girls come off the bench and contribute in really big ways. It's a testament to our leadership and the girls that take a step back sometimes put others on the field, so it was exciting to see all of those goal scorers."
The game was close within the opening five minutes, with the two Big South Conference teams tied 2-2, but it wasn't for long as the Panthers ripped off 16 straight goals that stretched into the third quarter.
High Point led 16-2 at halftime as Mullikin saw her first collegiate goals go through the net, while
Tatum Goettelmann registered a hat trick and
Lily Trout and
Eva Thorn each scored two goals. Seven other Panthers —
Shannon Smith,
Ava Grandi,
Jaidyn Donley,
Mairin Kelly,
Bella Germani,
Ella McKay and
Kate Prentice — all scored a first-half goal as well.
The dominance continued into the second half with Smith opening the third quarter with her second goal and
Anna Checkosky netting her first of two. Goettelmann jumpstarted the fourth quarter with her career-best fourth goal to pair with a new career-high four assists, which solidified a career-high eight points for the afternoon.
HPU scored all six goals in the fourth quarter as Grandi and McKay followed Goettelmann with a second goal for their first collegiate multi-goal games, while
Rachelle Gauthier joined for an 8-meter goal. Duke scored back-to-back goals for her first collegiate scores over the final two minutes to seal the deal, winning 25-4. Joining Goettelmann with multiple assists were
Gretchen Kawecki, McKay, Thorn, Smith, and Trout as it marked the first collegiate assists for Kawecki, McKay and Thorn as Mullikin and
Kayleigh White also dished out their firsts.
In the draw circle, the Panthers won 21 draw control to the Lancers' 10 as
Lauren Pujolar led the team with a career-best five, while
Caitlyn Baehr scooped up four and
Gracie Vickery won three. Grandi and Checkosky both caused a career-high two caused turnovers as Vickery matched her best with a pair and
Sydney Martin came off the bench with a team-high three caused turnovers.
Martin, Grandi, Baehr, and Smith all picked up two ground balls.
Ava Welsh, who tied the program record with 299 career saves with seven total and one shy of the program saves' record, picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover.
