Spartanburg, S.C. — The High Point University men's golf team went to Spartanburg, S.C., to compete in the Wofford Invitational as the Panthers placed sixth of a 13-team field. Redshirt-sophomore James Hassell shot a collegiate-best 5-under-par in the final round for a top-10 finish to lead HPU.
Head Coach Logan Davis: "I just want to start with how proud of these guys I am for putting in extremely good work after Tennessee. The work they've been putting in is showing up, and it is great to see. In this game, there's always a part of the game we can touch up, but to bounce back from Tennessee to fight hard in the final round today and move up the leaderboard shows how bad these guys want it going into conference. Great tournament from the entire team, and what a finish for James [Hassell], finishing in the top 10. Shlok [Jain] had a great first round, Burch [Harrison] and Carter [Pitcairn] stayed really consistent throughout the whole event. Looking forward to conference, we will put in more good work, can't wait to see these guys work and compete hard to bring home the Big South Conference Championship. It was great to see multiple conference teams right before post season since we haven't seen them in a while, so now we have a better idea of how we stack up going into conference."

Hassell led the way for the Panthers, shooting an impressive 5-under-par 66 in round three. In the same round, he recorded two eagles on the first and 15th holes. He also shot an eagle in the previous two rounds, finishing with the most in the field. Hassell placed first on Par-5 holes, shooting 9-under and finished with eight birdies. Overall, Hassell shot 2-under in the tournament and placed 9th in a pool of 88 golfers.
Harrison shot even in both rounds one and three with 11 combined birdies over the course of the three-day tournament. The senior shot 4-under on Par-5 holes and shot par 33 times. Harrison placed 20th overall. Pitcairn shot 1-over-par 72 in the final two rounds of the tournament and finished in the top 10 in total birdies with 12. He shot 6-under on Par-5 holes, placing him tied for 11th in the category. Pitcairn finished in 32nd place.
Shallat's best round came to open the tournament, shooting 2-over-par 73. The freshman recorded an eagle on the 15th hole of round three and finished with nine birdies. Shallat was tied for seventh on Par-5 holes, concluding at 7-under as he finished in 52nd place. Smith finished in 66th place, shooting 2-under on Par-5 holes. He shot par 30 times.
Jain shot independently over the course of the tournament, with his best round coming in the first, as he shot 4-under-par 67. The sophomore shot 5-under on Par-5 holes and totaled 10 birdies. Jain shot par 33 times for a 29th-place finish.
Up Next: High Point now has concluded the regular season and will look ahead to the Big South Conference Championship tournament. Conference play will take place from April 26-29 in Fripp Island, S.C.
