Panthers Shut Out Wake Forest on Tuesday Night

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team shut out Wake Forest 1-0 on Tuesday night to secure its ninth consecutive victory.

Site: Williard Stadium
Score: High Point 1, Wake Forest 0
Records: High Point (19-9), Wake Forest (20-9)

Head Coach Joey Hammond: "We haven't won a game like that in a while. If you want to be the club that you want by the end of the year, you're going to have to win in a lot of different ways, and we can check that box. Our guys can now believe that we can win a 1-0 game against a really good club using a multitude of pitchers. There is a lot of belief behind that as we didn't consider this an upset. Our guys believe it doesn't matter who we play, we expect to win no matter who it is. There was belief from the first pitch tonight. Can't say enough good things about Coach Edwards' job, the way every pitcher was prepared and the execution was flawless. Anytime you pitch well, it requires you to play good defense, and we did just that with some key double plays. Got to give credit to Seojun [Oh] who caught all those guys. And for him to get the big hit is not a surprise either. Really proud of our guys."

After six innings of a pitcher's duel between the Panthers and Demon Deacons, HPU broke through in the seventh inning. Both High Point and Wake Forest recorded two hits apiece before Landen Johnson and Seojun Oh delivered back-to-back hits in the frame.

Oh drove in the game's only run with an RBI single to left field, bringing home Johnson from second.

High Point's bullpen held Wake Forest to four hits in the 1-0 victory on Tuesday night. Justin Silverstein started and set the tone with two innings of work, allowing just one walk while striking out two. Jack Carey earned the win after tossing two innings and surrendering only one hit, while Dylan Story shut the Demon Deacons down in the ninth to secure his fourth save of the season.
