CHARLOTTE, N.C. — High Point University's Ava Welsh has been named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, which was voted on by league coaches and announced by the conference office on Tuesday.

Welsh recorded a season-high 15 saves against No. 19 Denver. The junior goalie made six saves in the opening quarter and finished with nearly a 50-percent save clip (.455) on 43 shots faced. She also caused a turnover and collected one ground ball. Welsh has now registered back-to-back contests with 10 or more saves.
