Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Really happy to secure a series victory today. I thought our pitchers, Ty Brachbill and Dalton Hitt, were exceptional, along with our defense, all day long. We had some timely hitting and certainly did enough to pull out the victory. Good team win and looking forward to an opportunity to get another league win tomorrow."
After Presbyterian took a 2-0 lead, Jack Clark scored on an Allen groundout. Then, Seojun Oh hit an RBI single, which scored Landen Johnson to tie the game at two. In the third inning, Willie Ponce and Clark both got on base with singles, and after a successful double-steal, the Panthers took a 3-2 lead with an Allen single. Presbyterian tied the game at three; however, Frank Kelly hit a two-RBI double off the outfield wall.
In the fifth inning, the Panthers took a 6-3 lead after Allen scored on a Presbyterian wild pitch, then
Jace Kohler smacked a double down the right-field line that scored Oh. Johnson's RBI ground-rule double gave the Panthers an 8-4 lead after Ponce was hit-by-a pitch earlier in the sixth inning.
Presbyterian had two runners in scoring position, but the reliever Hitt got out of the jam, sending the Big South foe down swinging in the eighth.
After hitting a homer to get one run closer, it was not enough as Presbyterian fell to the Panthers of High Point University, 8-5.
Up Next: The Panthers will look for the series sweep in game three on Sunday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m.
