HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Big South Conference has announced it's weekly awards as High Point University's
Wade Walton was named Starting Pitcher of the Week, while
Tyler Shafer was named Relief Pitcher of the Week.
Walton earned the win on Friday night against No. 9 Florida, helping High Point clinch its highest ranked win in program history. He tossed 7.0 innings, allowing no runs on six hits and striking out four batters. He only surrendered one walk.
Shafer pitched 3.1 innings across two appearances against No. 9 Florida, helping the Panthers pull off a historic series win against the top 10 nationally-ranked Gators. He allowed no runs on three hits and one walk while striking out six. In game one against Florida, the junior pitched the eighth inning allowing just one hit and striking out one. He then came in and closed the door in game two on a 2.1 inning outing with two hits and striking out five batters to record the final seven outs of the ballgame to secure the series win.
High Point is back on the diamond tonight at 6:00 p.m. as they host Duke University.
