LYNCHBURG, Va. - The High Point University baseball team dropped a 9-3 contest to Liberty University on Wednesday afternoon at Worthington Field.

Head Coach Joey Hammond: "Obviously not the result we expected tonight and simply didn't do enough in any phase to win. Put ourselves in a good spot in the middle of the game with the lead but Liberty ended up getting 3 big two out hits that all scored runs and was the difference in the game.
"
The game was scoreless through the first three innings before Liberty took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
The Panthers broke through in the top of the fifth inning after
Seojun Oh reached on an error and
Justin Ruiz walked,
Willie Ponce then doubled to right field to drive in two runs.
Lane Allen followed with an RBI fielder's choice to give High Point a 3-1 lead.
Liberty answered in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs to regain control. The Flames added four more runs in the sixth inning to extend the margin to 9-3.
High Point finished with four hits, led by Ponce, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. The Panthers drew six walks but were limited offensively after the fifth inning.
Jack Carey provided solid work out of the bullpen, tossing three scoreless innings with four strikeouts.
