High Point Falls in Overtime at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Making a quick turnaround from Saturday's game, the High Point University men's lacrosse team traveled over to Robert Morris University on Monday for a mid-day matchup with the Colonials. Taking it down to the wire in double overtime, High Point fell in the last two minutes of the game, 8-7.

Carson Robins led the Panthers offense with his second hat trick of the season scoring three goals on six shots.

Site: Joe Walton Stadium
Score: High Point 7, Robert Morris
Records: High Point (1-3), Robert Morris (3-3)

High Point's first goal and lone goal of the first quarter was scored by Robins on a skip pass from Justin Wixted, ending the first quarter trailing 4-1. The Colonials defense made it hard for the Panthers to get good open shots on target throughout the first half.

Across the second and third quarters, HPU found its groove on the attack and scored three goals to even the playing field and tie the game at four all with four minutes to go in the third. Nicholas Steele netted the first goal to end the second quarter, followed by Robins' second goal at the nine-minute mark in the third and Wixted's first goal of the game, five minutes down the stretch.

HPU trailed 5-4 at the end of the third quarter but quickly took back the lead to open of the final 15 minutes of action. Robins scored his third goal of the game and Collin Rovere took advantage of a man-up situation to make it 6-5 in favor of the Panthers.

With the game tied at six all in the fourth quarter, Ian Cann took his defender one-on-one and sent in a shot to the back of the net to give High Point the 7-6 lead with just under three minutes left in regulation.

Robert Morris snuck in a goal with 42 seconds left on the clock and tied the game back at seven all to send the game into overtime.

In four minutes of overtime both teams went scoreless after each attempted two shots. Zack Overend picked up a strong save late in the clock to keep RMU from scoring and lead to a second overtime.

After battling for two minutes in the second overtime, Robert Morris capitalized on an HPU turnover and scored to end the game, 8-7.

Overall, the Panthers outshot the Colonials 33-29 and won 14 face-offs to RMU's six. High Point struggled in the open field going 19-for-25 on clears.
