Score: High Point 73, Longwod 75
Records: High Point (21-4, 10-2), Longwood (18-6, 9-2)
Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "That's a tough one going into overtime. Hats off to Longwood, they played a full game. We went into the fourth quarter with a 14-point lead and they didn't lay down. At the end of the day, we gave up too many offensive rebounds and turned the ball over too much. We didn't execute great down the stretch so we have to be better in those three areas."
High Point set the tone defensively in the opening quarter, holding Longwood to just eight points while building a 13-8 advantage behind efficient early scoring from Aaliyah Collins and Chana Paxixe. The Panthers continued to control play in the second quarter, using a balanced offensive attack to extend the lead. Longwood closed the half on a late run, but High Point carried a 29-19 edge into the break.
The Lancers remained aggressive coming out of halftime, opening the third quarter cutting the HPU lead to three points. High Point scored 22 points in the quarter and maintained control despite Longwood trimming the margin late, taking a 51-37 lead into the fourth.
Longwood chipped away in the final quarter and tied the game late to force overtime. High Point and Longwood traded baskets in overtime, but Longwood closed the game at the free-throw line with 4 seconds left on the clock.
Aaliyah Collins led High Point with 24 points, six assists, and three steals. Hager finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Chana Paxixe added 15 points.
Up Next: High Point remains at home when they host Charleston Southern University on Saturday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m. for the Play4Kay game.
