SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team fell to USC Upstate, 2-0, on Wednesday night to open conference play.

USC Upstate had the early advantage with a few early chances and capitalized in the 30th minute to open the scoring with a goal by Riley O'Bryan. Just seven minutes later, O'Bryan tallied her second goal of the game to take a 2-0 lead over High Point.
As the clock wound down in the first half, the Panthers were rewarded with four corner kicks in a row. The best opportunity came on the opening corner that saw a shot from
Abigail Dibble that had the looks of a goal but was blocked and went out of bounds.
The Panthers wanted to start the second half looking to cut the lead to one, but the Spartans kept making a push to the HPU's zone.
High Point's keeper,
Aubrey McKessy was put to the challenge and tested on a few shots late in the second half to keep USC Upstate from adding to its lead. Upstate was able to hold on to the 2-0 advantage till the 90-minute mark to earn the victory on Wednesday night in Spartanburg.
Sabba Haghgoo led the team with two shots on goal, followed by
Bella Burr,
Morgan Wilcox, and Dibble with one shot apiece.
