High Point Draws with Campbell on Thursday Night

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The High Point University women's soccer team played to a, 2-2, draw at Campbell University on Thursday night.

Site: Eakes Athletic Complex
Score: High Point 2, Campbell 2
Records: High Point (0-2-2), Campbell (2-0-2)

Head Coach Aaron McGuiness: "We didn't start the first half the way we wanted to, we were flat. We let them take advantage of space and we didn't defend them with the aggression that we talked about. We made a few subs and saw an immediate impact on the game in the right way. It changed the game for us; we got back into it with the goal from Courtney (Andruczk). The second half was a much better performance, and I think if we started the first half the way we played the second, it's a different game."

Campbell came out hot to start tonight's match as they netted two early goals to jump out front. A goal in the ninth minute and one in the 18th was how the Camels applied pressure on the Panthers.

Right at the top of the box, HPU took control of a loose ball after Ellie Hammer outplayed the Camel defender and directed the ball towards her offense. Courtney Andruczk was right there as she got her foot on the ball off the bounce and lifted it up and over the keeper's head to cut the deficit in half. Hammer tallied her first career assist as Andruczk registered her first goal of the 2025 slate in the 34th minute.

Campbell went into the break with a one goal lead. The Panthers came out for the second half looking to find the momentum and put together a good sequence to net the equalizer.

The momentum took a quick shift once HPU was storming downfield in the 60th minute. The redshirt sophomore, Kari Powell made a circle around the Campbell defenders to put herself in position to fire a left-footed strike to the top right of the net for the equalizer that High Point was looking for.

Both teams had chances in the remaining 30 minutes of the match but were unable to string it all together. Behind a five save night from Aubrey McKessy and six shots from the Panthers, a 2-2 draw was the Thursday night result in Buies Creek.

Up Next: High Point will host Elon University at Vert Stadium on Sunday, August 31 at 7:00 p.m.
