High Point Volleyball Opens Season at doTERRA Classic

PROVO, Utah – High Point volleyball kicks off its regular season going out west for the second consecutive season to participate in the doTERRA Classic hosted by Brigham Young University. HPU will take on three teams over two days with matchups against Central Michigan University, Fairleigh Dickenson and No. 19 BYU.

The Panthers begin non-conference play on Friday, August 29 with a doubleheader against Central Michigan at 12:00 pm ET and FDU at 6:30 pm ET. High Point closes out the weekend against No. 19 BYU at 6:00 pm ET on Saturday, August 30.

HPU returns eight players from the 2024 Big South Championship roster including four players who played significant roles. Allie Gray, who was voted to the Big South All-Conference Honorable Mention team in 2024, led the team on the assist averaging 7.55 assists per game while finishing third overall in the league and will look to continue that role with the help of freshman Remy Catojo. Kea Whillock and Brooke Briscoe return to fulfill the back line duties and Élodie Lalonde will look to be a threat on the outside again for High Point during her sophomore season. The Panthers brought in nine additions for the 2025 squad with three transfers and six freshman.

High Point vs. Central Michigan – The Matchup

This will be High Point and Central Michigan's first matchup in program history. The Chippewas compete in the Mid-American Conference and were picked third in the preseason poll. Under the new leadership of Head Coach Arielle Wilson, Central Michigan returns 11 players from the 2024 roster.

High Point vs. FDU – The Matchup

High Point will face another first-time matchup against FDU. A season ago the Knights finished the season with a 22-9 overall record and an 11-3 record in the Northeast Conference, leading to a No. 2 pick in the 2025 preseason poll. Junior outside hitter Avery Bain and senior middle blocker Kylie Nott are both coming off career seasons in which they earned all-conference honors in 2024. Bain led FDU on the attack averaging 2.94 kills per set. The Knights are coached by David Nguyen who enters his fourth season at the helm.

High Point vs. BYU – The Matchup

This will HPU's second consecutive meeting with BYU and the third meeting between the teams in the last five years. A season ago, the Panthers put up a competitive match and took a set on the Cougars, falling 3-1. BYU finished the 2024 season with a 19-10 record and a 12-6 conference record in the Big 12. The Cougars advanced to the First Round of the NCAA Tournament and matched up with Loyola Chicago. Ahead of the 2025 season, BYU was picked No. 1 in the Big 12 preseason poll with four players earning preseason honors. Claire Little Chambers was voted the preseason player of the year after leading the Cougars in 2024 on the attack averaging 3.88 kills per set and 4.39 points per set.
