Dowgiallo’s Career Night Leads Panthers Over Terriers

High Point, N.C. — In the final regular-season home game of the season, the High Point Panthers women's lacrosse team took down the Wofford Terriers 24-10. The Panthers stayed hot from start to finish with a complete team win.

High Point was led by Reese Dowgiallo, who finished with a career-high nine points (four goals and five assists) to surpass her 100th career point. Shannon Smith and Esprit Cha both finished with four goals apiece, while Allie Connally added another six points and eight draw controls.

Head Coach Lyndsey Boswell: "I am really proud of the way the girls showed up tonight. They took charge from the very beginning. It was a total and complete team win. I love the way we played tonight together. We came off a really tough loss. We were in Georgia last weekend, and I think the girls took it personal. We didn't show up in our best form down there. We put our game face on. I was pretty sure it was going to turn out this way after the last couple days at practice."

The Panthers opened up the game with a strong defensive start early, with a save from goalie Ava Welsh. Connally then scored her first goal of the game, and Smith followed it up with another goal that was assisted by Dowgiallo to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Connally then dropped a defender with excellent footwork for her 33rd goal of the season. On a free-position shot, Smith was the second Panther with multiple scores in the first quarter.

Tatum Goettelmann scored on an assist from Connally to give High Point a 5-0 lead. Cha found the stat sheet early with a goal of her own. Kate Prentice assisted on the goal.

High Point held Wofford scoreless in the first quarter for the team's sixth shutout quarter of the season.

The Terriers scored their first goal quickly in the second quarter, but a great fake from Dowgiallo, after a pass from Lily Trout, led to another Panthers' goal.

Cha then found the back of the net for her 49th goal of the season. High Point went up 8-1 before conceding a second goal. Cha became the first Panther to get the hat trick with 12:32 remaining in the second quarter. Dowgiallo assisted on Cha's 50th goal.

Connally found senior Mandy Brockamp for her first goal of the game as the Panthers hit double-digits. Under two minutes later, Connally assisted again, this time on a Dowgiallo goal.

Prentice scored the Panthers' 12th goal of the game off a Dowgiallo assist. Smith secured her hat trick on a free-position shot with 7:52 remaining in the first half. Goettelmann found the Panthers' 14th goal of the game and an 11-goal lead.

Trout scored between a pair of Wofford goals as the Panthers went into halftime up 15-4.

Welsh had a dominant first half, saving exactly 50 percent with five saves.

Dowgiallo's sixth point of the game, which was also her 100th career point, came on an assist to Trout as the Panthers led 16-5. Bella Germani found her first goal of the game with just over 10 minutes to play in the third quarter.

Smith assisted on Dowgiallo's third goal and Germani's second to give the Panthers a 19-7 lead. Connally then became the fourth Panther with a hat trick. The 21st goal for the Panthers was scored by Cha with just over one minute to play in the third quarter.

Dowgiallo's eighth point came on an assist to Smith, while her ninth point was on a goal. The Panthers led 23-7. Germani had High Point's final goal.

Haley Urban led the team in ground balls recovered with four, as Gracie Vickery finished second in draw controls with six.

Up Next: The Panthers will look to finish the regular season on a winning note against Radford University on Wednesday, April 23, at 3 p.m.
