Score: High Point 66, Asheville 52

Head Coach Chelsea Banbury: "I'm happy to come in and get a win on the road. I don't think we executed exceptionally well, but we made enough plays to seal it. Fortunately for us we got to the free throw line a lot and we were able to knock those down. We must do a much better job of getting back in transition and limiting transition points."
The Bulldogs converted for the first bucket of the afternoon, but HPU came back and would hold a good-sized lead for the remainder of the game. Three Panthers scored in double-figures as Zavala led the floor with 18 points, and 11 rebounds.
Nakyah Terrell recorded 16 points as
Lauren Scott trailed with 10 of her own.
High Point shot 46.67% from the floor in the first quarter to propel them to a seven-point lead, 17-10 after 10 minutes. The Panthers were quick to jump to a double-digit lead in the start of the second quarter as
Shakira Baskerville hit a three pointer to go up 11. About two minutes of scoreless basketball, Scott broke it up with hitting two free throws. Zavala dropped a three pointer at the last second before the break to take High Point up 15, 34-19.
The Bulldogs came out fast to score the tip-in to cut the lead to 13, before Terrell hit a layup to go back up 15. She continued to stay hot as she converted a fastbreak layup in the paint to take a 17-point advantage. Asheville worked the score down to a 12-point differential with five minutes to go in the quarter. The Panthers and Bulldogs were trading off points before Anna Hager hit a three-pointer followed by a tip-in from Asheville to head to the fourth quarter with the 49-38 lead.
The Panthers kept their double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter to hold off Asheville. Terrell continued to dominate the floor as she converted on a few and-ones and shifty moves in the paint. The Bulldogs were unable to put a string of offense together to put a stop to High Point as the Panthers crawled back into the win column with the 66-52 win.
Up Next: High Point will remain on the road as they take a trip to Longwood University on February 12. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Joan Perry Brock Center.
